I can't believe I went to Paris
Adventures from yet another city I never thought I'd be lucky enough to visit (this is a theme for me)
Every time I travel I am a little bit in awe, no matter where I go, but this was especially the case with Paris, which is just so world-famous and iconic. I was lucky enough to spend six days there with my Auntie Jill, which just made it that much more special. I almost always travel on my own, so being able to explore and be silly with family was so much fun. Instead of talking to myself I got to talk to another person and rope them into participating in my shenanigans! Without further ado, please enjoy the highlights of a very magical, memorable week.
seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night, while having bread, wine and cheese picnic
finding the odd looking babies and animals in the centuries-old paintings at some of the most famous museums in the world
buying the biggest artichokes I’ve seen in my life
the afternoon spent in English languages bookstores (when in Rome, am I right?)
delicious, warm croissants available on every corner
helping Auntie Jill style her Parisian scarf, which only sometimes limited peripheral vision and is very multipurpose
the Ratatouille-themed guide book to Paris (worth the €2 even just for the photo-op)
Musée D’Orsay
getting off the Metro to admire the whimsy of some of the stations (the Louvre-Rivoli one had literal 8-foot tall replica statues of the ones in the museum)
French burgers from Mangez et cassez-vous
riding the line 6 Metro to see the view of the Eiffel Tower from the overground train
wandering the streets of Montmartre, which look out of a storybook, with all the small shops each selling their own thing, the lights, and all the little tables to have a drink outside
What a wonderful, wonderful city.
Reading: On John Green’s recommendation, I started Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar and while I haven’t read enough to form an opinion yet, Green’s book taste has yet to disappoint.
Listening: I’m back in my Beyoncé era, listening to Lemonade (2016), Everything is Love (2018) by the Carters, and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” and I would highly recommend.
Knitting: I’ve been working on a pair of socks for myself using the anatomical toe technique (so the toe part fits better instead of being perfectly symmetrical on both socks) in a beautiful green tweed yarn from Handknit Yarn Studio in Hamilton.
Stay tuned for some book-related writing coming soon…
Cheers,
El
One of the best trips of my life! A beautiful city enjoyed with an equally beautiful human!
